Contractor Scheme

It seems that the “contractor/service provider” scam is once again rearing its ugly head. A contractor received a text from a Mr. Moore requesting a quote to paint the exterior of his vacant home on the SE side of Grand Rapids. The contractor just so happened to be a friend of the REALTOR who has that particular property listed and he knew that the REALTOR owns the home as well. Therefore, he alerted the REALTOR to the incident. This particular report involved a painter, but landscaping, tree removal, fencing, roofing, pool companies, and more have all been targets in the reports GRAR receives. The intent appears to be to obtain the contractor’s banking information for the alleged purpose of wiring payment, but the scammer’s ultimate goal is to compromise the account.
